More Than a Painting 

Some images arrive asking to be explored a little further. 

A Shamanic Painting begins much like a Soul Portrait—with listening.

There is no predetermined image. No subject is chosen in advance. I begin with only your first name and allow the painting to reveal itself through image, color, symbol, word and impression.

Where a Soul Portrait captures what arrives quickly and spontaneously, a Shamanic Painting gives that imagery more room to unfold.

Color enters the conversation.
Layers begin to form.
Symbols deepen.
Details reveal themselves.

The result is an original work of art created specifically for you—carrying its own imagery, symbols, story and message.

Nothing is added simply because it would make a prettier painting. Nothing is removed because it is unexpected or difficult to understand.

The integrity of what arrives remains at the heart of the work.

A Different Kind of Portrait 

Soul Portraits and Shamanic Paintings come from the same place of intuitive listening, but they take different paths.

A Soul Portrait is created intuitively in a relatively short period of time, allowing images, symbols, words and messages to emerge quickly and spontaneously.

A Shamanic Painting begins with that same openness but continues into a fuller artistic process. Color, watercolor, ink and mixed media allow what arrives to develop into a more layered original work of art.

Neither begins with a requested subject.

Neither is created from information about your life.

And neither is changed to become what I—or anyone else—might expect it to be.

They are invitations to notice.

To recognize.

To remember.

Sometimes art gives us another way to see what words alone cannot quite hold.

How It Works 

You don't need to tell me your story. 

01 — Your First Name

When a Shamanic Painting is ordered, I receive only the first name of the person for whom it is being created.

No history.
No circumstances.
No explanation of what is happening in your life.
No question for the painting to answer.

This is intentional.

I don't want information about you influencing what I see, feel or receive.

02 — The Painting Is Created

There is no conversation before or during the creation of your painting.

I begin with your first name and a blank surface.

From there, I listen.

Images may appear. Colors emerge. Symbols, words, impressions or messages may come forward. Using watercolor, ink or mixed media, I follow what arrives without trying to direct it toward a predetermined outcome.

The painting is allowed to become what it needs to become.

03 — We Meet Afterward

Only after the painting has been created do we meet privately by Zoom.

This is when I show you your completed painting and share what I received while creating it—its imagery, symbols, messages, impressions and anything else that feels pertinent to your particular work.

And sometimes this is where something extraordinary happens:

something I could not possibly have understood while painting it means something immediately to the person receiving it.

04 — The Painting Comes Home

After our time together, the original artwork is prepared to make its way home to you.

What began with nothing more than a first name becomes something tangible that you can return to, live with and perhaps continue discovering over time.

Every Painting Is Different 

Because every person is different. 

There is no template for a Shamanic Painting.

One may arrive quietly and simply.

Another may become filled with color, movement, animals, landscapes, symbols or unexpected details.

I don't decide what belongs before I begin, and I don't remove something simply because I don't immediately understand why it appeared.

Sometimes the smallest detail becomes the one that matters most.

And sometimes its meaning isn't recognized until much later.

As It Arrives 

The work asks for trust from both of us. 

One of the promises I make to this work is simple:

I do not change what I receive to make it prettier, easier to understand or more expected.

An unfamiliar symbol remains.

An unexpected color remains.

An image I don't understand remains.

A word or message that seems unusual remains.

I may not always know why something has appeared.

You may not immediately know either.

That is okay.

The painting isn't created to provide every answer.

Sometimes its purpose is simply to place something before us that asks to be noticed.

And sometimes understanding arrives later.

If This Is Calling to You 

You don't need to know what you're looking for. 

You don't need to arrive with a question.

You don't need to explain what is happening in your life.

And you certainly don't need to know what the painting should become.

In fact, I would rather you didn't.

All I need is your first name.

We'll begin there.

Some Things Are Better Seen Than Explained 

Perhaps that is one of the reasons we make art.

Not everything meaningful arrives as an answer.

Sometimes it arrives as a color.

A symbol.

An image.

A feeling we recognize before we have words for it.

And sometimes, when we finally see it before us, something quietly says—

Yes. I know this.
